Junior Training, Missing Uniforms and Men's Div 2

Junior Training

Junior training for U8's, U11's and U13's starts tonight at the club - 5.30 to 6.30! Senior men's training is at 6.30 as per usual.

Missing Uniforms 

I am currently trying to track down all of the remaining un-returned uniforms from seniors and juniors from last year and earlier.

Could all players and parents check your drawers/cupboards/wardrobes for any ETP uniforms that have not been returned? If we do not get enough back, we may need to have some teams wear older sets of uniforms.

We will also start going through scoresheets to find out who the last person to wear each uniform was. This is a very time consuming job, but one that will have to be done to recover them. Invoices will be issued to any players who have not returned their uniforms, and were last to wear them (based on the scoresheets).

If you have a uniform to return, please return to either myself at 146 North East Walkerville (during business hours), or to Scott at senior training on Tues and Thurs nights at the club. If you need to discuss, call Simon on 0413898203. 

Men's Div2 Team - Deadline for Committment - This Sunday

The committee has decided this year, the Men’s Div2 team will only go ahead provided we have a minimum of at least 10 committed players who will play the entire season. To show this commitment, we require a minimum payment of $100 by at least 10 players. The deadline for this commitment was set a couple of weeks ago as April 10 (this coming Sunday). 
 
Our fees to remain the same as 2015 for 2016 with a 10% late payment penalty from 1/6/16 and no-pay-no-play from 1/7/16.

JUNIOR EVENTS ON AT THE CLUB THAT DAY:

Our Come + Try day starts at 10am and is aimed at encouraging new junior players to the club. If you can assist with this, please let the club know.

Welcome to 2016!

Welcome to 2016!!

Hello Members and welcome back for another year.  Preparation for this season started back in November where at the 108th ETPLC AGM we capped off 2015 by welcoming in 4 new Life Members in Lee Vickery, Leona King, Jem McGee and Jill Langstreth.  For the first time as far as I can remember we managed to fill by the end of the night all positions on our committee.  Having a full committee from the very start of the year is a significant step for the club and has allowed us to get a head start on planning.  It is through that planning process that I can announce some big news for 2016. 

2016 COACHES

I would like to welcome Tony Watt’s, who has been appointed our Men’s State League coach for Season 2016.  Tony came to the club last year as Assistant Coach under Lee Vickery and is very excited about the season ahead.  Tony will also be coaching the SA Under 18 Boys team who will be competing in Perth in late April, in addition to coaching the SA Senior Men’s team this year who will be playing mid-June in Melbourne.

We also have some exciting news that our Women’s team will be stepping up to compete in Division 1 in Season 2016.  On the back of 2 very successful seasons in 2014 and 2015, the time is right for the girls to take their game to the next level.  Imperative to success in Division 1 will be to have a coach to take them there, which is why I am very happy to announce Bob Benger as Head Coach of our Women’s Division 1 for Season 2016.

Tim Mildren will continue in his 2015 role as Men’s Division 1 Coach, and continue to work with this team to further enhance the playing group’s development and foster them into contention for State League selection.  Tim will also be working very closely with the Men’s State League coaches and provide support to the team where he can.

I am very excited to announce that Amber Dalton-Osborne has been appointed to coach our Under 18 Girls team for Season 2016.  This group improved by leaps and bounds in 2015, and the club could not ask for a more positive and competitive group of girls.  Amber was the Highest Goal Scorer in the Women’s Division 2 competition in 2015, and I’m sure the girls are super excited to be working with her this year.  Karen Gardiner will be continuing with Management duties of this team also.

SUMMER LAX & PRE-SEASON TRAINING

Summer Lax got off to a start in late November, after finally securing the perfect location to hold our competition.  Neale Arthur and the Broadview Tennis Club came to the party and offered use of their courts on Tuesday nights throughout the summer. I think all that have played in the competition agree it’s been a great location and a perfect way to enjoy a balmy summers night.  Our competition is in its 6th week tonight with only 4 weeks remaining.  We have 6 mixed team competing and the focus of the competition has been all about having fun and keeping active.  There is always room to accommodate extra players, so if you are free on Tuesday nights and want to get involved, please get in touch!

With summer now half way through, the time has come to dust off the cobwebs and start looking to prepare ourselves for the upcoming season.  Preseason Training will begin this evening at the Broadview Oval from 6:30pm to 7:45pm.  Both Men’s & Women’s players wanting to train with the senior group are invited to attend.  

Please bring along both full gear and joggers to the session.  A full training schedule for all teams will be provided in the near future.  The training location is right next to our Summer Lax Courts, so please hang around afterwards and watch the games which will run from 8pm to 10pm.  A canteen and bar is also available at the Broadview Tennis Club.

2016 COMMITTEE

These new coaching appointments wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of hard work behind the scenes by our new 2016 Executive Committee.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new faces, all of which you will be seeing plenty of around the club this year. 

Rachel Yorston has signed up as our Schools Liaison Officer and has been busy working with Lacrosse SA and our school contacts to ensure the ongoing development of our sport in the North Eastern area.  This role is hugely important for recruitment of players and to protect the future of our club.  Adele Poland has slotted into the Junior Director’s role and has already begun preparing for Season 2016.  Adele and Rachel have been working with their Junior Committee, which includes Elanah Vickery, Natalie Reynolds, Lindy Speck, Mandy Arscott & Julie Farmer. The Junior Committee is a great resource to help spread the load of the Junior portfolio.  Please feel free to get in contact with Adele at any time if you are interested in getting involved with our Junior program.

Leah O’Reilly was appointed as Women’s Playing & Coaching Director and has been working tirelessly to search and appoint a coach for the coming season, as well as ensuring we have the player commitment to enable the girls to step up to the next level.

Tristan Leggatt has been appointed as Men’s Playing & Coaching Director in recent weeks and has been working hard to get up to speed with this challenging role.  Tristan will be helped by Nick Brown who will come on as Assistant Men’s Director.

Jem McGee has returned to the committee in the role of Caretaker Secretary.  Jem brings a wealth of experience back to the committee, and has held a role in just about every position that our club has offered throughout his time at the club.  Jem will be assisted in this role by Mandy Arscott who joins us as the Assistant Secretary and will be primarily helping with Scoresheet Management and also continues in her role as part of the Junior Committee.

Tammy Johnston will be continuing on in her role as Social Director and build on the hard work and the great events she hosted in 2015.  Simon Gill continues in his role as Promotions director, although is still looking to secure a support crew to form the Promotions Sub-committee to help break up this time consuming role.   Chad Lindner will be continuing his role of Clubrooms & Grounds Director.

Peter Vickery will be continue his role as Club President, and will be joined again by newly appointed Life Member Leona King as Club Treasurer.  After filling in as Club Secretary in 2015, I have taken the next step and accepted the role for Club Chairman, and am already very excited about the coming year.  A lot of work is being done behind the scenes to ensure we hit this season running to give us the best chance of success on and off the field. 

THANK YOUS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have been huge contributors to our club over recent years and deserve a special mention.

In 2002 Jill Langstreth took over the Canteen Manager from Life Member Julia Edwards and has since worked tirelessly to ensure the canteen was always stocked, always shopping around to get the best deal for the club during the week, and of course running the Canteen week in week out throughout the season.  In later years Jill has joined Peter and Leona in providing our Thursday night meals at the club, which are hugely popular and great value too.   I would personally like to thank Jill for her dedication she has shown over her time at the club.  Jill has decided to step down from the Canteen Manager role for Season 2016, and will hopefully get to enjoy watching her son Brett take to the field from a much better viewpoint than the Canteen this year.  Jill was recognized at the end of 2015 with the appointment of a Life Membership to the club.  All the best for the future Jill, and on behalf of the club I would again like to thank you for your contribution to the club. The club is now on the search for a replacement Canteen Manager and would love to hear from you if you are interested in this role.

A huge thank you must also go out to Lee Vickery.  Lee has coached the Men’s State League team for 6 straight seasons, with the team reaching finals on 4 of those occasions.  Lee always approached every game with a great deal of professionalism, and it was this approach that saw him to progress to be appointed as the Men’s Under 19 Australian Head Coach, and will travel to Canada in mid-July to compete in the Men’s Under 19 World Championship.  In addition to Lee’s dedication in recent years to senior coaching, he has also held a great number of other roles within the Club.  Lee had a huge involvement in running our junior program for over 10 years starting 2002, and until this day continues that dedication with his involvement with the Pembroke Junior team.  Lee stepped down from his role as the Men’s State League Head Coach at the completion of the 2015 season and will this year focus on his U19 World Championship preparations, as well as continuing his partnership with Tony Watt’s as co-coach to the Under 18 Boy’s State Team.  Lee’s years of relentless dedication to the club was recognized at the end of 2015 with the appointment of a Life Membership to the club.  I would like to wish you the best for 2016 and again, on behalf of the Club and the State League playing groups wish to extend our thanks for your time and effort as Head Coach over these past 6 seasons, and look forward to continue working with you in the coming years.

The East Torrens Payneham Lacrosse Club is in the process of planning their 2016 season and would like to invite all interested parties to submit an expression of interest for all 2016 Senior Coaching positions. This includes our Men's State League, Men's Division 1, Women's Division 2 and Men's Division 2 teams.

Junior iLax indoor season - registrations closing soon!

Junior iLax is a Lacrosse SA sanctioned indoor lacrosse tournament starting at the end of the month focusing on Under 11/Under 13 mixed teams and an Under 15 girls grade.

ETP are looking to enter a few teams into this competition. Each team will cost $180 to register (which is split between however many players are in each team), and the competition goes for 7 weeks. Each team requires about 7 players, a team manager and a scorer.

Teams need to be registered by the 18th of October and the tournament starts 22nd of October. So if you think your child would be interested please get back to us as soon as possible so we can get the ball rolling and regsiter our teams!
